Hydrocotyle leucocephala has alternate leaves that form along a creeping stem from which its half-dollar sized and shaped leaves appear. It is one of the easiest plants in cultivation and is suitable for almost any aquarium.

Hydrocotyle leucocephala is particularly versatile, as it can be planted in the substrate or as a floating plant. It is not unusual for portions of the plant that are at the surface of the water to produce small white flowers.

Hydrocotyle leucocephala is edible. The leaves have a slight peppery taste and are used as a spice.

Family: Acanthaceae
Temple Plant, Starhorn, Giant Hygrophila
Origin: Southeast Asia
Small shrub 2-5 ftFull sunSemi-shadeBog or aquaticKeep soil moistBlue/lavender/purple flowersFragrantFlood tolerant

Hygrophila corymbosa naturally grows as an emergent, but it can survive long periods fully submerged. It grows pretty large leaves, allowing a single stem to occupy a significant part of the tank. Left alone, it easily crosses the water surface and begins to assume its emersed form: the leaves are darker and harder, and the plant produces purple flowers that give out a pleasant scent.
