Ludwigia helminthorrhiza is found on the banks of rivers or lakes and can also be found in marshy areas. This floating plant is characterised by its distinctive aerial roots and strong root network, which provide a good hiding-place for young fish.

A very decorative plant in open aquariums, and also suitable for garden ponds in the summer.

Perennial herb with unpleasantly-scented, bright yellow arum-like flowers.

The plants have very large leaves and form a slowly spreading clump. They can be grown as a ground cover. Grows well by water or in the bog garden.

The plant is rich in calcium oxylate, this is toxic and if consumed makes the mouth and digestive tract feel as though hundreds of needles are being stuck into it.
